What is the Optos?

The Optos, also referred to as a laser retinal scan or optomap, is latest technology that can take a photograph of your retina. The Optos is unique because the photo captures 85% of your retina, all without dilating the pupil.

What are the benefits of the Optos?

Having a photograph of your retina is a useful tool. The picture gives a very detailed look at your retina that can be studied for subtle issues. The photo also becomes part of your medical record that we can view every year to monitor for change.

Is this a replacement for dilation?

Unfortunately, it’s not. Although with the Optos we are able to see most of the retina, a dilated eye exam is always the most thorough way to exam the eye.
