Small silicone plugs, called punctal plugs, can be placed in the openings of the tear drainage system, helping what tears you do produce stay around longer.
They are very small and generally cannot be seen or felt. They can last for years but can be accidentally rubbed out if you rub your eyes vigorously. Punctal plugs can be placed in the office and the procedure is quick and painless.
